“The NSW Division of the Australian Institute of Conveyancers held its annual conference and awards dinner on 20 October 2012.
Colin Turnell, licensee of Endeavour Conveyancing Services and the first licensed conveyancer in the Sutherland Shire, spoke at the awards dinner.
Colin spoke about the continuous efforts of the AIC to convince, the public, the media and the politicians to end the solicitor’s monopoly in conveyancing. After successful lobbying, the New South Wales Conveyancer’s Licensing Act was passed in October 1992.
40 Conveyancers were issued licenses in 1992 and this has now grown to about 1,000 in the 20 years. There are now 370 conveyancing businesses operating in New South Wales.
Colin told the conveyancers they should be proud of their profession and celebrate the gains made since 1992 and to provide continue support of the AIC to promote Conveyancers into the future.
